Having Your Hair Highlighted at a Salon

Choosing of Shade: 

Find samples of hair highlights for a man that you like in magazines. Subtle highlights can be hard to detect so if you see a man’s hair that you like the color of keep those sideways as well. You should be cut out those pictures or remember the person’s name (if it’s a celebrity) so you can provide samples to your stylist of what you like and what type of shade you needed for your hair.

Appointment and Consultation: 

Make sure to communicate the salon you plan on having your hair highlighted when making your appointment. Similarly, if you are still not clear on what type or color of highlights you want.  You may need to ask the stylists that they leave some extra time for the appointment for a consultation. Stylists work finest when they are not rushed, so make sure plenty of time is given for your visit.

Keep Hair Dry and Clean: 

Never use hair products in your hair for the day of your appointment. Maximum stylists like to do hair highlights on dry hair and having your hair laden with styling gel can make working with your hair difficult and also color result will not be satisfying. If this is not possible you may have to have your hair washed and dried earlier than the process can begin.

Subtle or Noticeable Effect:

If they are not light sufficient the process might have to be done again. This is why the consultation process is very important—getting it right the first time is so far easier.

Make sure to take good care of your new hair highlights at home and working environment after you leave the salon. Use of the shampoo and conditioner for colored hair will help keep your hair healthy. Likewise, avoid long exposure to the sun which will bleach out and alter the color of your highlights.
